The crack of dawn

                                               The crack of dawn is

a wondrous time of the day!

It is of different kinds:

the ones in which

the white-petalled fragrance

of the night queen

steals o'er the stillness of the dark.

and those in which

the plaintive note

and the answering call

announce the resurrection

of nests in trees.

and those in which

sleep makes way reluctantly

to wakefulness and

snuggles closer to a sleepy mate

and the ones of vacant solitude,

or dreary loneliness,

or eternities in front of the idiot box-

all this and many more

but the crack of dawn

like the burst of spring

heralds the triumph

of life o'er death.
